Biography

About the artist

Kambiz Sharif, a Vancouver-based artist, stands at the helm of the Sharif Sculpture art foundry in Maple Ridge and Dream Green Gallery in Squamish. Born in the culturally rich city of Tabriz, Iran, in 1978, Kambiz embarked on his artistic odyssey as a painter, soon evolving into the captivating world of sculpture. His journey commenced with the dynamic interplay of lines on canvas, but a profound desire to breathe life into three-dimensional forms soon took root.

A graduate of the esteemed Mirak Arts School in Tabriz, Kambiz later established himself in Tehran, opening a studio where he immersed himself fully in the world of sculpture. Utilizing form as a medium to convey his thoughts and emotions, he founded his sculptural school in 2001, offering classes in clay, wood, stone, and metal.

In 2009, Kambiz undertook a bold leap across continents to Vancouver, Canada, marking the inception of a new chapter in his artistic career. Setting up an art studio in Maple Ridge, he expanded his influence by founding a bronze casting foundry in 2014. Under his adept guidance, a diverse team of skilled professionals collaborates to produce high-quality sculptural projects and public art pieces, further solidifying his position in the international art scene.

Kambiz’s abstract works serve as a testament to his intricate conceptual ideas, drawing inspiration from the expansive social landscape, everyday life, and timeless beauty. Installations hold a distinct place in his artistic repertoire, transforming spaces into theatrical settings that playfully engage the audience. Many of his installations respond to social events, propelled by his belief that what touches the heart should be shared with the world.

Beyond gallery spaces, Kambiz actively contributes to the public art sphere, crafting sculptures for urban spaces that seamlessly integrate with their surroundings. His creations invite viewers to reflect on their relationships with natural and built environments, encouraging a rediscovery of life, existence, and consciousness. In collaboration with his life partner, architect, and designer, Shahrzad Khatami, he made the decision to establish and showcase a collection of his and their personal assortment of other artists’ work at Dream Green Gallery. This visionary initiative resulted in the creation of an immersive studio, boasting a unique design and featuring a curated seasonal collection of local and international artists’ pieces.

Throughout his illustrious career, Kambiz has garnered numerous accolades, including the first-place prize in the Third Tehran Sculpture Biennial in 2002 and was honored with a one-year scholarship at Cité de l’Art in Paris. Additionally, he earned a diploma in Arts from the Ministry of Arts and Culture in 2003 and the Diploma of Courageous Ideas in Art from the Fourth Tehran Sculpture Biennial in 2004. Kambiz’s works have adorned both solo and group exhibitions in galleries worldwide and have found a cherished place in the collections of numerous art enthusiasts and museums. His artistic legacy continues to evolve, inspiring contemplation and dialogue across borders and cultures.
